365 Self-Portrait Project

At the end of 2010 I decided to commit myself to a 365 day self-portrait project for 2011. I had seen these project completed by amateur and professional photographers on Flickr and thought it would be an amazing project to embark on.

I wanted to do this project for a few reasons… firstly since we have been doing this professionally, we have taken very little photos of ourselves. And I guess when you shoot people as your job, often the last thing you want to do when you go out somewhere or do something is take the ‘big’ camera with you. So this is a great excuse to take a photo everyday and document a year in the lives of busy wedding & portrait photographers.

 

Secondly, I thought this project would push me creatively. There are lot of concepts I’ve wanted to do photographically but just haven’t had the chance, opportunity or time. But shooting daily self-portraits I also hope to learn different photography and lighting techniques and hone the craft of photography.

 

And I guess the biggest challenge, and probably a fear of mine, is whether we will fully complete the project. 2011 is looking like a really busy year for us. We’ll be shooting 50-60 weddings, probably about the same amount or more in portraits… we’ll be traveling around Australia and overseas. It should be pretty exciting!
