Sergio G - What camera brand do you use?
Adam Cavanagh - We currently use Canon cameras
Tasmin Lock - Do you recommend Canon cameras over Nikon?
Adam Cavanagh - No. I am heavily invested in Canon cameras and lenses, so that’s why I stay with them. But Nikon has an amazing product as well, which I’m sure Nikon shooters will tell you
Benjamin - I am passionate about photography and have a particular interest in wedding photography as a career. I was woundering if I could do some sort of ongoing unpaid intership, where I could tag along and help out and learn a few things along the way. I know this is a bit of a stretch, but i saw some of your work and was quite ispired and thought I’d give it a shot. If you are interested in any unpaid help at all, please let me know.
Adam Cavanagh - We run the business from home and unfortunately we are just not set up at the moment to take anything like this. But thank you so much for your interest.
Aaron Firthman - Do you shoot RAW or JPEG?
Adam Cavanagh - RAW
Teresa Chung - Do you use photoshop?
Adam Cavanagh - Yes we use photoshop. In this digital age you kinda need to
Trish Adamson - I am looking to get some more experience in the world of photography and am looking for an opportunity to work as an assistant on various shoots (when I say ‘work’ – I really mean tag along and take directions for free.) Would you be open to something like this?
Adam Cavanagh - Umm not really. Kim comes along to most shoots and I don’t normally need an assistant for portrait shoots.
Thomas Gills - I am a photographer out from the UK on a working holiday visa. Just wondering if you have any work available within your studio?
Adam Cavanagh - No sorry. We are a humble husband and wife team and with our current structure we have no need for additional staff.
Jasmin Richards - What sort of lighting do you use on wedding days?
Adam Cavanagh - We primarily natural light. But I also use off camera flash, on camera flash and video light.
Abby Lauber - Hi Adam, I have a quick question about reception shots. I have the 5D with the 24-105 lens and I am having a hard time getting bright pictures sometimes even with the flash. Everything comes out dark. Do you have any tips???
Adam Cavanagh - Hey Abby, the 24-105 lens is too slow for receptions. It’s an F4 lens… you really need to get a 2.8 or quicker because receptions have quite low lighting. I guess the other tip I can give you is to shoot in Manual. For me, shooting on AV, TV or P just gives really inconsistent results. Shoot at 2.8 and adjust the shutter and ISO to match the room. Have a play and see how you go.
Scott Finneran - Great shots! What lenses do you guys mainly shoot with on a wedding?
Adam Cavanagh - Thanks Scott. We use a variety of lenses but atm we mainly shoot with the 16-35mm f/2.8, 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.2, 45mm T/S f/2.8, 135mm f/2.0
Aaron Hill - Loving your work mate!
Ridzwan - Hi,
Lovely, like it so much. The colors are just right.
Do you use any presets or action file from totallyrad or something?. Or do you create your own and anything for sale to photographers (action/presets)
Thanks
Adam Cavanagh - Thanks Ridzwan. I have a bunch of actions… the usual suspects including TRA, but now I’m just using my own presets and actions. No I don’t have anything for sale.
Hellenna - At weddings do you shoot family and group photos as well? Your style is very photojournalistic and I haven’t seen any formal photos on your site so i was just wondering
Adam Cavanagh - Hi Hellenna, yes we do take family and group photos at weddings, any combinations that the Bride & Groom want. I just don’t post those photos on the website.
Louis - Keep up the great work mate!
Dean MacManus - Love your work dude!
