When should I be getting my maternity photos done?

It’s best to get the photos taken in the latter stages of your pregnancy when your bump in nice and big. So we say it’s best from 28 weeks onwards.

Where do you shoot the maternity sessions?

All our maternity shoots are done either in the comfort of your own home or out on location at the location of your choice. Some locations that we love working at are beaches, rivers, rock pools, parks etc. If you’re not sure of a good location, just ask us as we have a bunch of places we like to shoot.

What should I wear for the shoot?

Wear anything that you feel you look great in. But we also feel that wearing less clothes is better particularly with maternity shoots. One thing we also like to do is to wear more on the top half and less on the bottom half…. or… less on the top half and more on the bottom half. That type of combination seems to work best. I recommend that you try implied topless shots, where your top is covered by your hands, arms or hair and you wear a beautiful skirt or funky jeans. If you’re not inclined to bare all, there are many options that result in the gorgeous bare belly shots everyone wants.  Try bikini bottoms or ‘boy shorts’, as they look fantastic, particularly when mixed with cool and unusual button up tops. The “fitted” part for any wardrobe choice is key.  Look through some of our past maternity shoots for ideas as well.
Avoid bold patterns and lots of different colours as they tend to date quickly and are distracting. Neutral earthy colours work best.
Be sure to keep tightly-fitted elastic waistbands and socks far far away for a few hours before your shoot so that we avoid indentations in your skin. Wristwatches are also best left off for the session.

Can my husband join us in the shoot?

Yes of course. We can do a combination of you on your own and you with your husband.

Is hair and makeup included in the price?

No. We don’t offer hair and makeup as a service but are happy to recommend some great professionals. Just check out our ‘Vendors’ section.

What is the best time to have photos taken?

If you are doing outdoor location photography then sunrise and sunset are definitely the best times. The light is softer on the skin and the sky is more dramatic.
