Choosing a Hair & Makeup Artist

Choosing a hair & makeup artist is an extremely important factor in your wedding day and it will impact the quality of your photos. No amount of photoshop will fix bad hair & makeup. So I asked Roxy to give her opinion on the subject and to give some advice for Brides… and here is what she said:

“In my opinion, it is crucial to have a makeup & hair artist for your wedding day. Even if you are a skilled at putting makeup on yourself or doing an elaborate hair-do, wouldn’t you rather relax & be pampered than to sit in front of the mirror trying to do it yourself, while you are thinking about if the flowers have arrived yet, if the musicians have practiced enough, if the pageboy has the rings etc etc. The last thing you want is extra stress on your wedding day!

Bridal makeup is about finding the balance of allowing inner beauty to shine through with the help of makeup. Finding this balance yourself can be difficult, that’s where a makeup artist comes in.  A good makeup artist will give you flawless skin and accentuate your features but not so much that your husband-to-be cannot recognise you. I strongly recommend that all your bridesmaids to have the same makeup artist as it will be quite awkward if one stood out like a sore thumb in your wedding photos which you will keep forever.

A makeup & hair trial session prior to the wedding day should be on top of your To-Do-list. During the trial session, all aspects of the wedding are to be discussed. For example, the colour theme, flowers, the venue, the dresses and any queries you may have. You may not think these are important to discuss with your makeup artist but your makeup should compliment the surroundings of your wedding day. By the end of the trial you should feel comfortable & at ease with the makeup on, be that the lip products, false lashes or any hair pieces. It is like trying on a pair of shoes, if it doesn’t feel good at the store, most likely you won’t feel comfortable wearing it out.

Having a makeup & hair artist who can travel to you is handy, so when you wake up – you have someone waiting to fuss over your makeup & hair without you lifting a finger.
