Finding a videographer for your wedding day can be an overwhelming task. Where on earth do you start and how do you know that you are hiring someone who will produce work that you like? So I asked one of Australia’s leaders in cinematic wedding videography, Abraham Joffe to give some tips for couples![]()

Here are my top 5 tips for finding the right Videographer/Cinematographer for you:
1. Firstly you will want to decide what you are after. Do you a videographer to record and document the people and events of your wedding day, or would you like to employ the craft of a cinematographer who will produce a film about who you are as a couple? The new form of ‘wedding cinema’ now gives people the option to have a meaningful story-driven film produced.
2. Go on referral. It is a large, yet small industry. People who have the reputations for quality and service will be recommended highly and frequently.(and this goes for many different wedding services)
3. Ask questions. Research and understand what you will receive with the service and package – what it includes and what it does not. Is the full length film edited, how long is post production (editing) time, does the videographer have experience at your particular locations/reception/culture?
4. Choosing a photographer and videographer who have a similar style or approach is the ideal scenario. If you want a very natural film but hire a photographer who has a “fashion style” and likes to heavily pose people, then you may find a conflict of taste. Try and understand the manner and techniques of both studios. If they have worked together before that is always a good start.
5. Meet the people. This is really important. Visit the studios and meet face-to-face the producers who you look to employ. Videography/Cinematography is a visual art form best seen on a full size screen. The internet is a great convenient way to shortlist the producers who’s style appeals, but once you have your short list you should really meet the people who produce it. Personality and service from the outset will certainly be a big indicator how you will be treated in the long run.
Happy hunting!
