2011 Australian Professional Photography Awards

Entering photography awards is a really nerve-wracking experience for me. You shoot a bunch of weddings and then you look through your portfolio for a few images that you think might do well. You get them printed on the right paper… get them printed again because you chose the wrong paper… and get them properly mounted. And send them away to the competition. Well a couple of weeks ago I sent the some images away to get judged in the annual Australian Institute of Professional Photography awards called APPA (Australian Professional Photography Awards) and these awards were just held in Sydney over the weekend.

There were over three thousand entries from some of Australia’s best photographers and each image is carefully judged by a panel of five photographers… and for me… this is the really nerve-wracking part. Your image is presented to the panel of judges… the judges get up out of their seat and look very closely at it…. judging it…. studying it… looking for flaws… do they like it?… do they hate it?… why does that judge frowning so much?… it’s very nerve-wracking!! There may be some debate… and they each give it a score…

Anyway, this year we were in Fiji shooting a wedding while the judging was on… so my nerves were spared lol… although I was still a little nervous about the result.

Well we came away with a really good result which we are over-the-moon about!!!
